Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I posted, but, today, I have the June 2017 Japan Crate! 🙂 I won’t be getting the July one, but I will have the July Umai Crate (by accident….I thought I canceled it. :I) And I’m totally doing this one differently today: I have tasted all but three of the items in this crate, and one of my sisters helped me out as well! 😀 So let’s go ahead and get started! :3

This month’s theme is Childhood Favorites, and, honestly, I’ve only ever had one of these snacks before, and that was in a past Japan Crate!

IMG_20170616_123638

The first item is the Ice Stick Lollipop. These lollipops are supposed to look like ice pops, and it looks like it’ll be a tasty little treat! I didn’t try this one since there’s only one piece, but I do hope it tastes good!

IMG_20170616_123809

The second snack is the Mochi Taro: Salt. In the May crate we had a snack kind of like this, and I really did enjoy it. This one I also enjoyed! It had a light salt taste and it was pretty good! My sister thought it was ok when she tried it.

IMG_20170616_123723

These are the Triangular Cracker Vegetable. They’re vegetable flavored crackers, but, honestly? There was so flavor to these when I tried them, and my sister agreed. I really wish I had been able to taste the flavor, whatever it was supposed to be, but there was just nothing.

IMG_20170616_123648

This one is the Soft Soda Soft Candy. The booklet describes them as being jellybean like, but I compare the texture more to being like chewing gum! I really like the ramune flavor, and it had a slight sour kick at the end. My sister didn’t really seem to enjoy the sour kick, but seemed fine with it otherwise.

IMG_20170616_123851

The fifth snack is the Anpanman Soft Cracker. This bag is HUGE and I was so surprised when I opened it to find that the crackers were individually wrapped in packs of two! That means I can easily put them in my lunchbox and take them to work with me! My sister didn’t want to try these, so I tried them by myself, and I really liked them! They were crunchy and had a salty, kind of buttery taste to them!

IMG_20170616_123751

This is the Roll Candy Strawberry 20G. Basically, it’s a Japanese Fruit Roll-Up! I tired this one by myself again, and it was pretty good! I haven’t had a Fruit Roll-Up in years, so, I can’t compare this one to the American version, but I do think this one is very good, it has a really good strawberry flavor to it, and it is sticky, but, that’s expected.

IMG_20170616_123624

This snack is simply called Pike8. I was a bit confused about which on this was according to the booklet, because this package doesn’t match what’s in the booklet. Either way, it’s another rice cracker and this one is supposed to have a buttery and salty taste. It’s a very crunchy cracker and not bad tasting, but it does take a bit to get the butter flavor. I enjoyed it and my sister thought it was ok.

IMG_20170616_123706

This is a snack I’ve had before, the Corn Potage. It’s a corn soup flavored puff snack, and I really do enjoy this snack! It has a sweet corn flavor, and I love that. My sister got the flavor as well, but she didn’t like it that much.

IMG_20170616_165051.jpg

These are the Rilakkuma pretzel sticks. It’s basically Pocky without the cream on the outside, and they aren’t bad! They come in a honey butter flavor, and I personally really enjoy that flavor combination! I liked these a lot, and my sister thought they were all right.

IMG_20170616_123955

This is the DIY kit for this month, Shin-chan Puripuri Pudding #5. This is the fifth edition of this DIY kit, where you follow the directions to make pudding. I haven’t done this kit yet, and I don’t know if I’ll make a separate post about it or not, I’m undecided. I don’t think I’ll be using the butt shaped mold, personally. :I

IMG_20170616_123913

Genji Pie!! I’ve been dying to try these for months! These are in a mini form, and they’re heart shaped, baked cookies that are just like a flaky pie crust! They have a delicious buttery sweet taste, and remind me of pecan pie crust! I absolutely love these!

IMG_20170616_123736

This snack has a strange name! In the booklet, it’s called Lactic Acid Bacteria is Alive! It’s a hard candy that is strawberry yogurt flavored, and it has live lactic acid bacteria in it, which is a probiotic. My sister and I tried these and at first, I thought they were gummy candy! It’s not bad, and I do like the flavor, and I think my sister liked it to an extent as well.

IMG_20170616_123943

Here is the drink for this month, Pudding Shake! This is going to be a strange one to try, I think. It seems like it’s a creamy drink with bits of pudding in it, and it’s being compared to boba drinks. I personally really like boba, so I do hope this tastes good when I drink it, but I am a bit scared lol.

IMG_20170616_123903

Finally, we have the Choco Anpan! These are little breads that have chocolate in the middle! I’ve wanted to try these for a long time, and finally I got to! However, I thought they were just ok. The chocolate was good, but my sister and I agree that there was too much bread, and not enough chocolate in the middle.

The bonus item this month is a moldable sushi piece. It comes with a plastic piece of raw fish, and this semi-wet material that you can mold to be like the rice of the sushi. It’s interesting and I have mine together in the bag it came in, just so the material doesn’t dry out.

IMG_20170616_124134

So that’s the June 2017 Japan Crate! I’m actually super happy with this crate and everything that came in it, and I think it was a very strong in the snacks that they sent us!

I’ll see you guys again next month for the July Umai Crate! 🙂

Chocola Gummy

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

Oh cola flavors…why must you come back to me? I honestly hate the taste of cola, it’s so gross to me. It’s a chocolate covered, cola flavored gummy, so, I was really grossed out byt it. But…this wasn’t bad?

I don’t know what it is. I can’t taste the cola gummy in this candy! All I taste is the chocolate, maybe just a slight hint of cola, but it’s almost like it isn’t even there! I didn’t mind this candy in the end at all, but I wouldn’t buy it of my own will!

Kajiriccho Grape & Soda Soft Candy

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

Here’s the first item from the January JapanCrate to be reviewed! I’ll be reviewing all the snacks from that crate as well as the “stocking” stuffer!

This candy is a grape flavored outside and soda flavored inside. It’s soft and chewy, and really tasty. I thought the grape flavor was going to be super strong, but it wasn’t! It was pretty mellow, and with the soda flavor it was like a grape soda candy! I really enjoyed it, and wish there had been more of it in the box!

Choco Kinako Mochi Matcha DIY candy kit

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

This is an interesting little DIY candy kit! Originally, in the December JapanCrate, we were supposed to get a magic slime kit, but a shortage happened and they replaced it with this kit!

I’m actually glad we got this one instead, because I have a lot of love for matcha flavored candies and snacks. It is a weird little kit, but it’s not terrible tasting.

You have a packet of little mochi tablets, chocolate, and matcha powder, a tray, and a two pronged fork. You’re supposed to wet the mochi tablets so they become soft and squishy, then dip them in the chocolate, then the matcha powder and eat.

It…isn’t bad…The mochi tablets are kind of weird, and I didn’t have a dropper with me so I couldn’t do it properly, but I did eventually get the tablets wet enough that I was able to do the rest of the kit correctly. The chocolate and the matcha powder were good. It really tasty with those on it, but separate, I don’t think the mochi tablets would be very good.

All in all, not a terrible kit, I enjoyed making it and eating it, but the mochi tablets were kind of icky.

Pure Gummy Puchi Sankaku Lemon

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

JapanCrate sure gave us a lot of citrus in the December box! No complaints of course, it was all delicious! This is the last prepackaged snack in the box, the DIY kit will come tomorrow!

This little candy is a lemon flavored gummy. I have seen this brand before and wanted to try it, but just never got the chance to. When I first took it out of the box, my mom and I both thought it was just one gummy, but when I opened it, I found it was several little disc shaped gummies with a fine sour sugar around them! I ate them super late one night, so I don’t have a picture of them, sorry.

These were super good though, I really enjoyed them. They had a nice, sour lemon taste, but it wasn’t overpowering. There were about five or six of the gummy discs in the little triangle package. This packaging was the hardest to open, I didn’t have my scissors and struggled to tear it open lol.

Kakushi Ume-dama

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

The first word of this snack makes me thing of Kakashi from Naruto, because it’s only a one letter difference haha. Anyway, ume is pickled plum, and it’s usually a quite sour flavor. I’ve had a gum in this flavor before, and I really loved it, it was good!

These little hard candies aren’t bad at all! They’re supposed to be sour, but the first one I had was more on the sweet side, I didn’t taste any sour at all. The second candy, however, had a great sour flavor! It was so good, and didn’t disappoint on the flavor!

Sakuranbo no Uta

***This is not a sponsored post. It is being done for fun and to inform, no other reasons are involved. The company that makes this product has no idea I exist and did not give this item to me for free.***

Today I have a small taste testing review of a candy that was included in the December 2016 JapanCrate! I’m going to make my way through the December snacks the next fifteen days, before my January crate gets here. And yes, I’m planning one of those days to be the DIY kit that was included!

So, we’re going to start this with the Sakuranbo no Uta! These are cherry drop candies with this kind of powdery coating to them. The pamphlet describes them as having a smooth cherry taste, with the creaminess of the whipped cream on a slice of cherry pie. Now, I’m not a fan of just plain cherries, but cherry pie is amazing, one of my favorites.

These candies aren’t bad, even though they don’t really remind me of cherry pie with whipped cream. They tasted like a pretty standard cherry hard candy to me. It’s not bad, by any means. The description just gave me too high expectations haha.

December 2016 JapanCrate

My apologies in advance if this is the only post, besides what I am gifted on Christmas Day, for this month that’s a review or something, but I’ve been very busy and been sick this week. :/

BUT, that’s not going to stop me from giving a quick overview and review of this month’s JapanCrate! And yes, I will have another next month! 🙂

So here’s the overview pictures! I love getting this red box, it’s so fun! The little booklet is cute too, and explains some things about Christmas in Japan, and tells you more about the snacks! I had to use flash for these, as I’m having some lighting issues in my room right now. But, I did my best, and here we go with the overview of the snacks!

img_20161221_193723

The first item in this box is the Sakuranbo no Uta. This is a cherry flavored candy that apparently is supposed to have a resemblance to cherry pie with whipped cream on it. I’m not a huge fan of cherries, but cherry pie is the exception, haha. I can’t wait to try these and see how they taste.

img_20161221_193708

Next we have the Uma wa Vegetable Salad Flavor. This apparently is made by the makers of the Umaibo sticks, and these are rings instead of full sized stick. These are supposed to taste like a salad with dressing on it, and I really hope these taste good. I thought they sounded interesting when I saw them on JapanCrate’s Twitter, and they really do sound tasty!

img_20161221_193942

Our third snack is the Animal Lesson Choco. These are chocolate creme filled cookies with animals on them! These remind me of the Hello Panda cookies, and I bet they’re exactly the same, just with different designs on the front. Can’t wait to try them out!

img_20161221_193955

This is a very interesting snack. It’s called Yakimo Yokan, and it’s a roasted sweet potato flavored gelatin dessert. Yes, this is a gelatin snack. It’s squishy, and I actually am excited to try it, as I love sweet potatoes. I’m sure it’s going to be delicious cold~

img_20161221_193651

This is another one I’m super excited to try! These are Harvest Biscuit Matcha flavor. So, basically, they seem to be crackers that have a matcha flavor to them. I recently discovered that I actually really like matcha flavored snacks, so, I’m really excited to try this out and see how it tastes!

img_20161221_193930

This next item is called Tsundermon Gum. And yes, it’s tsunder like from tsundere. These are meant to be like the tsundere trope, of going from sour (mean or cold) to sweet (nice or open). It’s in a lemon flavor, and looks like it’ll be tasty. I hope it isn’t too sour lol.

img_20161221_193740

This snack is the Morokoshi wa ta Ro. These are just corn puff snacks it seems. The package is cute, and I like corn puff snacks, so, these should be a win for me. 🙂

img_20161221_193755

Next up, this is the Grapefruit & Orange Nodo Ame. These are grapefruit and orange flavored hand candies that have vitamin C in them. I personally love grapefruits, and a candy in that flavor sounds wonderful! And after being sick this week, I need the vitamin C, lol!

img_20161221_193841

Next is the Anpanman Pero Pero Chocolate. This is basically a chocolate lollipop, and it’s got an Anpanman character as the design! I don’t actually know this character’s name, but it looks delicious. If anyone knows this character’s name, please tell me!

img_20161221_194011

Now we have the DIY kit that was included, the Green Tea Choco Mochi kit. Because of a shortage from their supplier, JapanCrate had to make a substitution from the slime kit featured in the booklet to this one, which isn’t a bad thing, they let us know in the emails with our tracking number, which is great, and I think this kit will be better than the slime kit honestly. I might try to record this one, since it’s a DIY kit, but, we’ll just have to see.

img_20161221_194028

Getting down to the last few items, we have the drink that was included in this box! This is the Double Sparkling Yuzu & Lemon soda. I’ve never had yuzu before, but it being citrus and in a soda with lemon actually sounds delicious. I’ll have to get this chilled and try it out soon!

img_20161221_193912

Another one I’ve never tried before, we have the strawberry flavored Calpico mini. The best way I know to describe these is kind of like astronaut food, but also not, from what I’ve seen and heard. The booklet describes this as a crunchy cone with an airy chocolate in the middle, with the one I received being strawberry flavored. I’m really excited to finally try one of these, I’ve been dying to for years!

img_20161221_193827

This time around, our bonus item is another package of candy! This is the Kakushi Ume-dama, an ume flavored hard candy. Ume is pickled plum, and I’ve actually had an ume flavored gum in the past that I honestly loved. These are supposed to have at least one very sour candy in the bag, which isn’t a problem for me as I love sour candies.

img_20161221_193859

This, honestly, is the one thing I was not excited to see in my box. This is the Long Cola Gum, two long pieces of cola flavored gum. I absolutely cannot stand the taste of Coca-Cola, and a cola flavored gum does not sound the least bit appealing to me. But, I will try it. I will probably share it with my three sisters, and we’ll see how it is.

img_20161221_193812And finally, we have the Pure Gummy Puchi Sankaku Lemon. This is a tiny package of lemon flavored gummies, and they’re supposed to taste like lemonade. I showed this to my mom and at first we both thought it was just one piece, until she held it up to the light and we saw it’s more than just one. Here’s hoping they taste delicious!

img_20161221_194131

Despite the cola gum, I’m very excited for all the snacks in this box! I can’t wait to try them out, and see what each one tastes like. I’ll try to get individual reviews up for these snacks while I’m on break, but I might be a bit busy for that (I know I will be very busy next month and probably unable to do that with the January box, but we’ll see).

I do, honestly, highly recommend JapanCrate, even if I don’t get boxes from them often. They do have a store open on their website now, and I might have to make an order for past snacks I haven’t tried, but that’s just another thing we’ll have to see about. 😉

Upcoming Christmas Posts!!!

Today I went to Wal-Mart, and I picked up a few Christmas snacks and treats that we can try out here!

Yes, two of these are in no way Christmas based, but I will be reviewing the seaweed and sesame stick snacks as well.

So, for this taste testing “series” we have Little Debbie, Lindor, Hershey’s, and more! I’ll be trying to spread these out over a few days, so they last, but may do just one or two a week until Christmas. We’ll see what happens!

Chu Grape Jelly — Grape Jelly candy in a tube?!

This is the second item I received in my July JapanCrate! It seemed very interesting and I was a bit skeptical of it. It seemed really weird, but there are a lot of Japanese candies and snacks that I think are weird, but end up liking in the end

This is NOT one of them!! I did not like this at all! When I opened it, I noticed it was kind of like a gummy candy, but a bit more liquid like. The first taste was bad. It tasted like the plastic casing. I put some of the candy on my finger to taste it, and it was no better. I hated the consistency. I tasted more of it, and just, no. I hated it. It was awful.

It may just be a personal taste thing, but I really, REALLY hated this. The rest of the candy went in the trash. I couldn’t eat it, and none of my sisters were interested. My mom even thought it sounded gross.

You may like it, but personally, it was a big fat fail for me.
